- European cattle leather
- Polo lacing
- Calf width adjustable
- YKK zip
- Shock-absorbing sole
Description
Fit in brief: The Laval fits rather snug in the foot – between two sizes prefer the larger one. The new shaft sits a little higher and firmer; the leather settles when worn; Busse has allowed for that in the measurements. If your calf circumference sits between two widths, take the wider one: polo lacing and elastic insert make up about 1 cm. With the size advisor under the buy box you will find the right variant in three steps.
- made from beautiful European cattle leather
- attractive full-length polo lacing to set the desired calf fit, lined with a leather tongue that can be fixed to stop the lacing coming loose when not worn
- lined and covered YKK® zip at the back
- elastic insert along the zip for an optimal calf fit with up to 1 cm of variance
- calf inside in durable leather with special grip properties for perfect hold
- outer shaft curve: 7 cm
- zip slider at the top protected by a press-stud leather cover
- zip protection in the heel area with double spur rest
- hand-finished, stabilised rubber layered sole with non-slip ribbed profile and firm heel for riding
- real leather lining
- removable, pre-shaped insole, extra shock-absorbing and pressure-reducing for all-day comfort

Size chart & measuring guide
This applies to the figures in the size selection (e.g. “39 NN · Leg 46 cm · Calf 34–36 cm”) and in the table below. Measure your leg as described and choose the variant where shoe size, leg height and calf circumference match you.
How to read the size
Example 39 NN · Leg 46 cm · Calf 34–36 cm: shoe size 39 · shaft NN = normal height / normal width · suitable for a leg height of 46 cm and a calf circumference of 34 – 36 cm.
1st letter = shaft height: K = short · N = normal · L = long
Then = shaft width: E = narrow · N = normal · W = wide
The codes apply to this model only. “39 NN” can have different measurements on another Busse boot.
How to measure correctly (Busse guide)

1. Bend your leg slightly and mark the lowest crease at the back of the knee.

2. Straighten your leg again and measure from the floor to the mark (back of the leg).

3. Measure both calves at several points and take the widest circumference.
- Measure at the time of day when you usually ride. Calves can swell over the course of the day.
- When measuring, wear the breeches and riding socks you will later wear in the boot (summer or winter breeches).
- Measure both legs and use the measurements of the larger leg.
- It is most accurate if a second person helps you, especially with the leg height.

Shown are the variants we stock for this model. If you are between two values or your height and width don’t fit the same row, just get in touch (see below).
According to Busse, this size chart applies equally to LAVAL, LAVAL pure wool and LAVALET.
Why you shouldn’t buy “to grow into”
Riding boots settle slightly after the first few wears: creases form at the ankle and the boot drops a little. The heights and widths in the table already allow for this settling. So it is intended that the boot sits a little higher or firmer at first. Choose height and width exactly according to the table. If a boot is too high or too wide from the start, it settles more and the zip and material at the ankle are put under more strain.
If the new boot rubs at the back of the knee at first, heel wedges help. According to Busse, they make up approx. 2 cm of height.

Reitstiefel
Size estimation: Just right
Schöne Stiefel leider etwas zu kurz gewählt. Schade dass man für Rücksendung aus Österreich selbst bezahlen muss. Habe fast 23 Euro bezahlt. Da muss man sich überlegen noch was zu bestellen .
How to find the right size for your riding boots
Use the manufacturer's size chart
Every manufacturer has a different cut. So always use the size chart for the specific model and check whether it gives your leg measurements or the measurements of the boot. With Busse, the numbers in the size refer to your leg measurements: '39 NN · Bein 46 cm · Wade 34–36 cm', for example, means a leg height of 46 cm and a calf circumference of 34–36 cm.
Measure your foot length
Measure the length of your foot from the longest toe to the heel, ideally in the afternoon or evening, and compare it with the manufacturer's size chart.
Measure your leg height (shaft height)
Bend your leg slightly and mark the lowest crease at the back of the knee. Then straighten your leg again and measure at the back from the floor to the mark. It's most accurate if a second person helps you.
Measure your calf circumference
Measure both calves at several points and take the widest circumference of the larger leg. If the manufacturer specifies a different way of measuring, follow that.
Clothing and time of day
When measuring, wear the breeches and riding socks you'll later wear in the boots, and measure at the time of day when you usually ride.
Choosing your size
- Choose the height and width exactly as the size chart specifies for your measurements. Don't deliberately buy tighter or higher.
- Many manufacturers, e.g. Busse, have already factored the dropping of the leather into their measurements. A new leather boot therefore sits a little higher and tighter at first. This is intentional and no reason to choose a different size.
- Boots with a synthetic shaft keep their shape, so the measurement should fit straight away.
- Your heel and ankle need a little play so that you can ride comfortably.

Polo lacing
Laced all the way through, lined with a leather tongue that can be fixed. That way you set the calf fit yourself – up to 1 cm of play – and the lacing does not come loose when the boot stands in the cupboard.
Zip & heel protection
Lined, covered YKK® zip at the back with an elastic insert. The slider sits at the top under a press-stud leather cover; at the heel a double spur rest protects the fastening.
Putting on & breaking in
The heel and ankle area are firm at first – that is intentional. European cattle leather with a real leather lining needs a few rides before it moulds to the leg. The removable, pre-shaped insole cushions impact and reduces pressure.
Size chart riding boots Laval
Each size comes in up to seven shaft/width combinations. The letter code reads as follows:
- First letter = shaft height: K short · N normal · L long
- Second letter = calf width: E narrow · N normal · W wide
Example: 39 NW is shoe size 39, normal shaft height, wide calf. The table shows shaft height and the matching calf range in centimetres for each combination. If your calf circumference sits exactly between two ranges, take the wider one – lacing and elastic insert make up about 1 cm.
